Word of the day: Coyote
Up until about a week ago the only definition of the word coyote I knew was the definition that referred to the wild animal that howls in the night. In Texas, coyote means something different. It is a term used to refer to someone that illegally brings immigrants across the border. As in a Mexican might pay a coyote to get them into the country.
The word is so well known that newspapers use it in their headlines without explaining what it means. You can imagine this had made me very confused about how a wild animal was charged with smuggling immigrants!
