Is this a new trend?
Crime is on the rise here in Austin. We have long been touted as one of the safest cities in America, but lately something is going wrong. The SWAT team is out just about every week as someone holds themselves up in a house or apartment, earlier this week somebody burst into a house and tied up a father and beat him and then raped his 15 year-old daughter. Yesterday, we had our second kidnapping in less than a month here. We're already up to 3 murders.
What's up with that?

I think you'll find that Austin IS one of the safer large cities in the US (we're #4). You work at a TV station, so you hear about it more.
I think you'll also find that, while any murder is unfortunate, 3 murders in 2 months is a stellar record for a city our size.
Thank god our local constabulary do such a fine job.
