Austin ranks number 6 in the country in percentage of Gays and Lesbians in the adult population.
San Francisco, Seattle, Boston, Portland, Tampa, Austin are the top six. I found this out after I read an article that said Austin had one of the country's largest percentages of single men and the comment section was a lot of women agreeing, but saying that the men were either gay or didn't want a relationship. Someone linked to a study by the U.S. Census and UCLA that breaks it down. (*.pdf)
Now, how am I supposed to reconcile the fact that I live in a city full of single gay men and I don't have a boyfriend?
Time to go eat my feelings!!

I posted a job on Saturday and received 125 resumes before I deleted the posting. JEESH! Some were immediately disqualified, but it was tough to narrow it down to a list I could manage to shoot off to the other hiring managers. I have to go take a hot bath after all that work!

How was your weekend? I have to tell you that those Sunday champagne brunches can be brutal. It is very strange to be drunk at 3 p.m. and hungover by 8! I hope you had a good weekend, I managed to cram a lot of things in and still get some relaxation in. What did you do?

The TSA forced a woman to remove her nipple ring before boarding a plane. A.) That's retarded.
But, the lady got herself some Gloria Allred attorney action and released this statement:
"I wouldn't wish this experience upon anyone," Mandi Hamlin, 37, said at a news conference. "My experience with TSA was a nightmare I had to endure. No one deserves to be treated this way."Really? Nightmare? Worst thing that's ever happened to you? Someone come over and help me find my eyeballs...they rolled under the sofa.

The latest census report says that Texas is the fastest growing state in the union. Sixteen percent of people that moved last year moved to Texas. No shit, have you heard me complain about the tight housing market and traffic? Dallas, Austin, San Antonio and Fort Worth were among the top 10 fastest growing cities in the latest report.
Good: More diverse Texas and building the economy. Bad: People generally get on my nerves and now there's more of them.

American canceled flights yesterday and have started canceling more today and now Delta joins in. Can you imagine Atlanta's airport today if Delta cancels a bunch of flights? Nightmare 3000!

I went out on a sales call today and the guy that drove had car trouble. As we were driving down the freeway, his electrical system shut down and we coasted to the emergency lane just before an on ramp. We had to dart across three lanes of highway traffic to get to the side of the road and walk about half a mile to a gas station.
He called a tow truck and I got an ice cream and a six pack of beer and called my assistant to come get me. When he arrived, I was leaning against a gas station building drinking a beer. If that ain't country, I'll kiss your ass.

Don't you hate it when you get a personal email that makes you sad, but you are so busy you can't be sad? You can't process the message, you can't work through an emotion because you're so busy? I got one of those. It was one of those emails that make you want to just take a good hour and let that emotion run through you. I can't I'm in meetings and giving presentations all day.
No time to be sad! It'll have to wait until I get home tonight. That means it'll be there in my mind all day.
So. Thanks for that.

Pilot suspended after firing gun in cockpit
Hey, uhm, here's a little advice...don't handle a firearm while you are trying to fly a plane. There is one exception. Should someone come rushing at you with a bomb strapped around their chest and their hand on a trigger, you may fire at will. Otherwise, keep your sanctioned handgun in its case.
The above message brought to you by common sense. Get some, it's neat.

A new study says drinking diet sodas can make you gain weight. Well, no shit.
What's better than seeing someone order a double cheeseburger, fries and a diet coke?

Don't
How about don't hand me a business card and on the back you've written down the area bars where you can find "cougars."
How about you don't show up to a networking event stoned out of your mind and try to tell me what a great business model you have.
Do
Ask questions of those you meet and act interested before you ask for their business card.
Make a plan before you go. Don't forget to mingle!

At Church Sunday, the minister told a story that so beautiful it brought me to tears. It is a good example of why people believe in God in the first place so I thought I would share it after the jump.

What a great weekend! Was yours nice, too? friday night we had champagne at the Four Seasons and then made our way over to Apple Bar. Thankfully, I managed to get home by 1 or so. Saturday, I put furniture together with an incredibly sexy man. That night, there was a nice party to go to and once again, I managed too drink quite a bit of champagne. You know, in between flirting.
Easter Sunday was perfect. The Benediction was a full on New Orleans Jazz Quartert playing Scott Joplin's Pineapple Rag and instead of everying walking out of the sanctuary like they usually do, we all sat down and burst into applause at the end. Easter brunch at The Mansion followed...with more champagne.

I loved this missed connection...a straight guy sounds pissed that a gay dude kept checking him out even after he busted him. Then he says if he sees the gay dude again he will have sex with him.
Maybe that's why the guy didn't stop looking at you even though you were with your girlfriend...

From the drama fags gone bad department:

From the bad parenting department:

In honor of Easter, today it is How Great Thou Art. Then sings my soul, my Savior God to Thee. How Great Thou Art! Indeed!
I think a lot about my grandma, Emma Sue, during Easter. I can still hear her singing out "He Lives!" in the church choir. I envy her serenity in life and how her Faith allowed her to shrug off hardship, injustice and sorrow. She stood tall and straight and encouraged me to find grace, forgiveness and peace. Lofty goals I fail to meet often.
No matter how far I stray from a path, my roots can bring me back from the brink.
Happy Easter everybody. Rejoice! For He is risen!

Why do I watch House Hunters on HGTV all the time? I see houses in cities around the country that I think "OH! I'd love to live in THAT house!" Ugh...and it pisses me off you can find an 1800 square foot house in Decatur just outside of Atlanta in that cute area for only $285k. I could so live in Decatur and commute to downtown Atlanta.

Twice this week I have come home from work, changed clothes, sat down on the sofa and woke up at 9p.m.! ARGH. I'm still so tired I will crash at 11. Niice. That means my at home time after work is like 2 and a half hours. Ah...smell the free time I have on my hands.
I'm going to change the title of this blog to, "OMG I AM SO TIRED" (Shut up)

We had some great spring storms roll through today. My only regret was that I was not at home with the windows open and fast asleep on the sofa. I think on days like that we should all get to stay home and do nothing.
Well, that's what I'm doing now so it turned out alright.

And the rest of the day as well. Happy St. Patrick's Day.
Hope you had a weekend nearly as awesome as mine. JM and I jetted up to Dallas on a last minute trip and got suites at a beautiful hotel. We shopped like it was our job and had great meals and champagne. Exactly what the doctor ordered for me.

In the East you get seasons, predictable for the most part. On the West Coast it's also predictable. Sunny days, cool nights. Here in Austin it is just bizarre. Today's high? 92. Then it drops to 55 at night and then 73 tomorrow. We've had days recently where it was 77 during the day and 34 at night.
Do you have any idea how hard it is to dress for this? When I leave the house it is winter and 36 degrees, but by lunch it's spring and 77. Two completely different wardrobes. ARGH.

I was taking the day off, but wound up in the office by 8:30 and giving a presentation at 9. Then I was in meetings until 2 when I finally bolted to go get a mani/pedi and meet the washing machine repairman. (Still not fixed). Was settling in at 5:30 and my boss called with something we needed to get to the East Coast in the next 30 minutes.
I'm going to try again tomorrow. Wish me luck! Oh except I have to be on TV at noon, and I have a conference call at 1 and a meeting at 2:30. But, other than that I have the day off.
Mmmm, this bitterness taste good y'all.

Some delivery van driver almost t-boned me today. I was about to turn left when I saw this jerk swerve around a car that was apparently turning right too slowly for him. He swung out into the opposing lane of traffic and came speeding up towards my rear. I didn't turn left because I was afraid he'd stay in that lane and hit me so I just looked in the rear view mirror and prepared for the hit.
The fool slammed on his brakes, narrowly missing me and then proceeded to honk and scream at me. For turning left? On a surface street where the posted limit is 30? OH HELL NO. I actually opened my door in the middle of the road and was stepping out to call 911 and he drove up on the sidewalk and went around me, cussing me the whole way.
The drive back to my office was where I had my daydream of grabbing my tire iron and pulling him out of that van and beating his skull until it was just a soggy pink foamy mess on the road.
That's when I decided I have to take a day off of work and go to a spa. I'm tightly wound. But, seriously...that jerk? OMG if he had hit my car? With his wreckless driving? The call to my lawyer would have been delicious.

SXSW is in full swing here in Austin. Musicians, filmakers and gaming geeks have descended on the city for the music, film and interactive festival. The swarm of adoring nerds have been gushing about meeting the founder of facebook and the screenburn arcade is the talk of the town. Helen Hunt was here to premier her new movie as was Neil Patrick Harris and many other folks.
Austin gets a lot of good press and 1/2 the people that come to the festival start looking at real estate so they can move here. For the locals it's basically just a couple of weeks of traffic nightmares and hard to get reservations.

Five and a half hours in a car with people you work with is a long time. There turns out to be, on average, less talk about work and more about our personal lives. Of the two women I traveled with, one was married and one was single. The talk about love and life partners was probably one of the best conversations I've had on the topic in a long time. It was interesting to talk to a 40 something single woman about being single and how much we had in common about our lives and being happy with being single, but still holding out hope of finding someone.
It was also nice to hear the married woman say that yes, being single is hard because you have to do everything yourself and don't have a partner to help navigate life and pay half the bills.

I'm not much of a TV watcher. But, since I got my beta login to hulu.com, I have been watching some great stuff. The video quality is amazing and I can get caught up on shows I didn't even know about and then catch them on TV later.
Clearly, it is the future. I know some of you are real TV fans so I have five invites to the beta site for hulu.com courtesy of hulu.com. You can watch TV online and give them feedback about the beta site. Leave a comment or shoot me an email if you want one.
Here's a clip from SNL that made me laugh. "I was in a listening contest this morning. I won first and second place. It's because I have really big eardrums." HA! Anyway, behold the embedding of SNL clips right into my blog:

I love to round up the search terms that get people to this blog. It still puzzles me that amputee porn is near the top. Here are some of my favorites:
-how to talk with stupid people. (That's pretty much the theme of this blog)
-I don't think I can do this. (My motto?)
-perfect date nights. (Like I would know!)
-seersucker for fat people. (HA!)
-why do you suck so hard
-truman capote
-dating for the maladjusted
-dumbest person in the world

In my furniture shopping spree last weekend, I bought a new desk. JS came over and made me a keyboard drawer yesterday and it's awesome! My new desktop computer arrived yesterday so I'm busy setting up iTunes and installing crap today and trying to figure out how I'm going to set the office up now. This desk is hooge and I want to face the windows but there's all these wires!
I'm going to require some assistance, STAT.
I'm off to a few SXSW things today, but I'll be around later.

Well, to be more precise, I have a bird poop problem. My yard is apparently a bird sanctuary and it is getting on my nerves. If I don't pull the car into the garage it will be covered in bird poop. When I go out into my yard it's like an Alfred Hitchcock movie. There are grackles, crows and doves all over the place.
I can't really shoot them or poison them, so I'm at a loss. How do I get them to leave me alone? It is too time consuming to run out into my yard every couple of hours and shoo them away. Any ideas?

I remember when I first read about Helen Keller when I was in grade school. Talk about inspiring, her story had an impact on me and I consider her a hero for her work to change perceptions about the disabled.
A rare photo was found of her as a child with her teacher, Annie Sullivan.

Last night I was busy with election coverage stuff. Senator Clinton won Texas, Ohio and Rhode Island last night. I was pleased for her. It was a great night and I spent it hanging out with the former state comptroller and candidate for governor. Her campaign slogans have always been "One Tough Grandma" and I think she's awesome. She gave a speech one time and said she believed in "government in the sunshine." That's when I decided I liked her.
But, being at the office until after midnight is exhausting. I think I'll take Thursday off or something.

Have you seen this video of a plane trying to land in Hurricane force winds? The news says the wing touched the runway and they called the pilots heroes for aborting the landing and then getting the plane on the ground safely.
NO WAY. These pilots are assholes. You do not try to land a plane in hurricane force crosswinds! That is wreckless endangerment as far as I'm concerned. I had a similar experience one time landing in NYC and as the plane nearly flipped over right above the runway I was immediately convinced it was my last moment on earth.
You don't take people's lives in your hands because you "think you can make it."
I'm SO MAD at them.

This weekend was fantastic.I shopped like it was my job and finally got a dining room table, a new dresser, a desk and two leather chairs for the living room. Saturday night a group of us went out to Apple Bar and the amount of Red Bull and Vodkas I drank are a personal record. It was a little out of control.
This group of people were dancing badly and we, admittedly, did make a little fun of them. One of the girls in the group came over and said to me, "Y'all are not nice people." I replied by pulling open my shirt to show her my nipple, licked my finger and rubbed it. She gasped and stormed off. I also fended off some crazy straight boy that told me I should leave the bar or I was going to get killed and then he told me and JM that he was going to kill us. He changed his mind, though, and tried to stick his credit card down my shirt and wanted us to take him home and sex him. Ugh, drunk, mentally unstable closet cases are exhausting.
Sunday brunch was fun and now we are gearing up for the big elections on Tuesday.
Hope your weekend was great!

So I was a judge at the Miss Teen Austin and Miss Austin pageant on Friday night. You'll get a glimpse of the hot personal trainer that was a judge with me. I loved the Shania Twain opening number and the whole "very Texan-ness" of it all. There were some screaming people in the audience!
So, what did you do Friday night? Me? I just helped make some girl's dreams come true. You know...the usual.
