A beautiful parable

At Church Sunday, the minister told a story that so beautiful it brought me to tears. It is a good example of why people believe in God in the first place so I thought I would share it after the jump.

A young boy's parents died when he was 6 and the family had to decide how to split the children up amongst relatives. An aunt wrote to say she would take the 6 year old and sent her servant to pick him up. As they rode through the woods on a horse, the young boy asked so many questions. "Will she wait up for me?," "Will I have a room of my own?," "Will she love me?" to which the servant replied, "Yes, she will love you, she is waiting for you. You'll see, when we clear these trees I know she will be there with a candle in the window." As the horse took them into the clearling, there the aunt stood in the doorway with a candle in the window. She took him in and to his room and sat at his bed until he fell asleep.

The young boy grew up to become a minister in the Methodist Church and received a letter from his aunt one day. She wrote him to say that she was entering the end of her life and did not know what was ahead for her.

He wrote her back, "Dear Auntie, Very many years ago I left a house of death on an unknown journey and was afraid. I met a candle in a window, and a house of love. As you enter this journey, Auntie, there is a candle in the window. Someone waits for you. You are expected. There is a room for you and there is love waiting there. I know this because I made a similar journey when I was but a child.
