What I would do in case of a burglar...

Ever wonder how you'd react if someone was trying to break into your house? I do, I've often wondered if I would just scream or hide or crawl out a window. Last night I got the chance to work it out for real.

I fell asleep on the couch and woke up at about 2 a.m. with the lights on, the TV on and as I was coming out of my daze I saw through the window on my front door that someone was opening the screen door. I sat up and just started shouting, "NO. GET OUT OF HERE. NO. NO. NO. and then the door closed and I realized my front window was open and a face appeared. By this time I was on my feet and my adrenaline was pumping. I just continued shouting, "GET OUT OF HERE. GO AWAY. NO!"

Turns out it was my across the street neighbor that was wondering if I knew who's car was parked on the street that left their interior light on. I apologized for freaking out and explained to her that she had just scared me into a panic. I was still shaking when she left. She said I had scared the daylights out of her, too.

Do not come just walking up on my porch!

I think that would have startled anyone - reminds me of when you had that break in when you lived downtown Chas.

When I lived by campus I had someone break out one of the windows on my back door and try to get in that way. I was scared shitless and reached for the nearest thing I could find - an iron skillet. I started yelling and I swung that skillet at that hand that was reaching through the window. I hit it so hard it cracked the door and the person on the other side screamed in pain and ran off...

In retrospect I probably could have gotten rid of them just by yelling. That would have saved me from 1) a cracked door and 2) having to clean gore off of my skillet.

OMG, Charlie! I feel so bad for you. That would have scared the crap out of me.

That's terrible! She couldn't have hollered "excuse me, hello..." from outside? and at 2am who CARES if someone's car light is on! go to bed!
