Your future's so bright

A new study says Gen X'ers are freaking out about retirement.

More than two-thirds of Americans aged 27 to 42 don't think they will ever be able to stop working
You'd need to have about a million dollars saved to live 20 years on about $50k a year. So, no...you won't be able to stop working. The lottery is not a sound retirement strategy.

My retirement plan is sound. I'll retire to a third world country and eat cat food. See? I'm not freaking out about it at all.

Hm, the last one didn't go through. In any event, I think you should refrain from using 'third world' and use 'exotic' instead.

I read excerpts from what I think is the same study. I was astonished at how little people save. I understand that incomes and expenses vary, but it seems like if money is short people need to figure out what they NEED. Really NEED. I'm not unsympathetic to people falling on hard times and there are all kinds of unforeseen circumstances, but let's be honest. That's not most people's problem.

Charlie doesn't know this yet but I'll be moving into his basement in El Salvador or wherever when it's time to retire. I'm sure I could do AMAZING things with a can of Feline Feast and a papaya!
