Saturday was spa day and I had some great treatments I'll tell you about after the jump...
A hot stone massage, healing mud wrap, manicure, pedicure and eyebrow wax. Today is a facial and deep tissue massage.
The hot stone massage was amazing. The therapist started by laying me down on two rows of hot stones on either side of my spine. Then hot stones were placed under my feet and my hands. The therapist uses the hot stones as part of a therapeutic massage. There were a few of the stones that were a little too hot, but the use of them increased blood flow and helped relax the muscles that the therapist was so heartily tackling.
We decided to name a particular knot in my shoulder and I have decided it's not a badge of honor for a massage therapist to tell you that he's never seen such knots that have apparently been there for years.
In between spa treatments, I hung out in the men's lounge. There was a steamroom, sauna, hot jacuzzi and showers. I think the resort hired beautiful men to walk around naked in there, but I'm not sure.
My healing mud wrap was incredible, too. First, the therapist exfoliated my entire body with these great gloves I got to keep. I was laying on a sheet of mylar and the mud was applied over my entire body except my neck and face. The black mud is from Norway and contains some sulfur and salts. It was infused with geraniums so the smell was pleasant and relaxing.
After the mud is applied, and I was wrapped in a tight burrito to absorb the mud and then let the mud extract toxins from me, the therapist gave me a face massage and scalp massage. A great part of that was when she placed a towel across my eyes and placed three scents in front of my nose and asked me to breathe deeply. It was incredible!
When the mud has done it's job and I was sweating profusely, it was time for a shower. I washed all the mud off for the second part. After the shower, the therapist applies a moisturizer and you can just feel it absorbing into your body.
