I've decided that I'm not going to water my lawn this summer. It's not even June and the lawn is looking a little tired from the 90 degree days we've already had. Can you imagine the water bill if I have to water this lawn twice a week for four months? No way, No sir, No how.
I will look at what native grasses there are at the nursery. Someone says that buffalo grass is the way to go and it is very drought resistant. That may work.
I will get over my embarrassment when you come over and my yard is brown. I just can't imagine a.) wasting all that water for something as pointless as a green front yard and b.) the expense associated with it!
So, if you come over before I have some native grasses that are heat and drought tolerant you will just have to get over your embarrassment at knowing someone with a brown lawn when all the neighbors have lush green St. Augustine grass in their yard.

If anyone gives you shit for having a brown lawn, just make them feel like jackasses for wasting natural resources. And then sit back and feel superior, knowing that you did a little bit to help save the planet.
That's my plan, anyway. :)

Hey, money is green, too!

As long as you don't paint your lawn polka dots like some people did a couple of years ago, I'm fine with any color.

Well, I know exactly what's going to be on my green shopping list for next month: a huge Mercedes Benz that gets 23MPG on PREMIUM fuel.
Enjoy feeling smug about your brown lawn, but wipe the grin off your face when you guzzle your way to and from work in your fuel-inefficient car.
Honestly Charlie, for someone as concerned with appearances as you are, I assumed you'd be the first person to plonk down the extra $60 it would take to keep your lawn green this summer.
P.s. Buffalo grass is brown in the summer as well.

Good for you, Charlie!
The care and maintenance of green lawns is a huge waste of resources and a significant source of environmental pollution.

Someone's dad once told me he didn't water the lawn because he didn't get paid to mow the grass, so he wasn't going to add to the unpaid workload.
Personally I think he was just lazy, but who cares what my opinion is?
