I've been thinking about Yahoo!

After the bitter Microsoft deal and subsequent pullout with Yahoo! I've been giving it all just a little bit of thought. First, I can't help but admire Yahoo!'s CEO, Jerry Yang, for standing up against Microsoft...even going so far as to insinuating he would sabotage the company if Microsoft continues with a hostile takeover attempt. But, seeing stocks tumble today makes you wonder if Mr. Yang is a little too emotionally attached to Y! and not making the best business decision for the company. (I can relate, I get emotionally involved in my work, too.)

Then, I began to think about Google. I think it's time for me to consider leaving Google's gmail and why is it my home page? I do so much more than use a search engine online that it seems stupid to give them a page view so many times during the day. As for GMail, I'm unhappy. I don't like how Google gleefully encourages you never to delete any email so they can scan it all the time and probably turn the results over to the feds. It is a little creepy that when I'm reading an email the advertising on the right already knows I'm getting dumped and places ads for heartbreak and online dating services there just to mock me.

Maybe it's time to give ol' Yahoo! another shot.

love Yahoo. never left. it's my morning: checking mail, reading or watching the news, checking stocks, obsessively checking the weather in Paris....

Just when there are DESIGNER/ARTIST google homepage themes? I don't know about you, but it'll be some months before I tire of waking up to Todd Oldham.

Can you escape contextual advertising in yahoo mail, even when they seal a deal with Google to place their ads? I think this money stream is only going to get stronger.
