The strangest invite I've received...
Good morning! You are invited to join the lawyers and staff of Austin law firm Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP, along with clients and friends to an advance preview of Disney's Beauty and the Beast put on by Zilker Theatre Productions.Seriously? This is what I'd call a stretch for a tie-in. Good try though, pr hack.

Forgive me for being ignorant about PR, but I frequently receive invites from Law Firms, Utilities, Insurance Companies and other business entities for theatre, ballet, social events, etc.
I'm not sure what the disconnect is. I mean, Akin Gump sponsors an event, they get X comp tickets, they use those tickets for folks they consider important to the firm... I think that's pretty standard, no?

No, this was sent me as a "member of the media" in hopes that I would promote it. That's the PR part of this...If I were a client of Akin Gump, I'm sure I would have received an invite and been pleased to attend.
